RESEARCH

Parkinson's disease could be detected early with AI scans

A study from Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute found that eye scans powered by AI could identify Parkinson's disease even before symptoms show up. Within a sample of more than 154k patients, the study applied AI to assess retinal indicators. The technique detected physical changes in Parkinson's patients' eyes, on average, 7 years before a clinical diagnosis. The scans are thought to be more accurate and economical than standard brain scans, and they might be used as a pre-screening tool. Read more
